PHASE I (2005-07)
Overview
Phase 1 of the English and science college readiness project in Washington State began in January 2006 when content development teams, composed of English and science K-12 teachers and college faculty, were convened for the first time to define college readiness in their respective subject areas. The English and science teams completed their tasks eleven months later, in December 2006.
On January 25, 2007, the Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB) approved the preliminary English and science college readiness definitions, which include attributes (habits of mind). Preliminary is emphasized above because it is expected that the attributes and definitions may be modified after they are piloted in classrooms in Phase 2 of the project.
